A New Approach in Deaf Education:

ADVANCING QUALITY GROWTH

Achieving academic excellence in deaf education can be difficult.

This is especially true when dealing with low literacy rates in deaf students. Although the development of literacy has been a priority to deaf education, it remains its biggest challenge. With low academic achievements, how do we prepare deaf students for a society and an economy in which they'll be expected to be self-directed learners, able and motivated to keep learning over a lifetime? Literacy growth is crucial for deaf students. The Schinarakis method relies on the belief that literacy encompasses a set of skills including ways to connect writing and reading to communication, critical thinking, creativity and, collaboration.
